What is sheet acrylic?
Sheet Acrylic is a thermoplastic, often purchased in sheet as an alternative to lightweight or shatter-resistant glass. Acrylic is known by many names, with common names including acrylic, acrylic glass, and plexiglass. Brand names include Plexiglas, Evonik Cryo Acrylite, Lucite, Plaskolite, Optix, Perspex, and many more. This material can be cut into very fine shapes using laser cutting technology as it vaporizes upon impact with concentrated laser energy. They are also characterized by good impact strength, formability, and excellent resistance to sunlight, weather and most chemicals. Although acrylic weighs less than half the weight of glass, it has much greater impact resistance. As a thermal insulator, it is approximately 20% better than glass. It is tasteless and odorless.

Application of acrylic sheet
Acrylic is generally used for a variety of applications that usually take advantage of the natural transparency and impact resistance of certain variants. Common uses include lenses, acrylic nails, paints, security barriers, medical devices, LCD screens, and furniture. It is also frequently used for tanks, Industrial window glass, safety guards, inspection windows, engine covers, and enclosures around exhibits. In merchandising, acrylic sheet has become the main sign material for internally illuminated faces and letters, especially for outdoor use where resistance to sunlight and weathering is important.
In addition, acrylic is used for table dividers, display fixtures and cases, transparent demonstration models of household appliances and industrial machinery, and vending machine casings. Acrylic's ability to resist damage and corrosion, as well as to transmit and disperse light efficiently, has resulted in many industrial and architectural applications. Acrylic is used to good advantage as a diffusing medium in lighting fixtures and large light ceiling areas. Dome skylights formed from sheet acrylic are an increasingly popular way of receiving sunlight to industrial, commercial and public buildings and even to private homes.
